After the event
You made it! Taking time after an event to reflect on the role of the care space and how effective it was is important to help improve care space services. It’s also a good chance to review your resources and what you might need for next time.
Debriefing and feedback
Nobody gets care spaces practice right the first time, and it’s likely there will have been challenges and problems to solve. The best care spaces grow and adapt over time to meet the needs of the events they serve.
The most important thing care spaces can do to enhance the effectiveness of their service is to listen to the feedback that comes from people who use the space, as well as care space and wider event staff or venue staff.
Any feedback or debriefing must not include any identifying information of people who used the service.
-
After each event, care space organisers and event organisers or venue managers should make time to catch up and discuss what they felt went well, ideas for improvements, and any future needs that could improve the space next time.
Some care spaces may want to send a written report or brief. Event organisers or venue managers may provide a template for this. This may form part of the initial service agreement.
Any major incidents that occurred during the event (such as those resulting in involvement of emergency services) should be thoroughly discussed and any documentation should be exchanged between care space staff and event organisers or venue managers.
-
Debriefing within care space teams promotes learning, accountability, and team effectiveness. It helps people to:
make sense of their experiences and gain meaningful insights.
process any emotional responses they may have experienced.
assess the factors that influenced their decisions.
explore alternative approaches.
-
Give people who use the care space the opportunity to tell you about their experience. This could look like a short, optional survey in the care space during the event, or the ability to email in or make contact via a website later.
